An Extraordinary Visit: National Artist for Dance Agnes Locsin Brings Neo-Ethnic Choreography to CSAB

LOOK | Art has the power to preserve culture, tell stories, and inspire generations. Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod community had the rare privilege of learning from one of the country’s most distinguished cultural icons.

National Artist for Dance Agnes Locsin captivated students, educators, artists, and cultural advocates through her lecture-demonstration, “The Path to Neo-Ethnic Choreography,” held at the Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod Gymnasium.

Drawing from decades of artistic excellence, Locsin shared the creative journey behind her groundbreaking Neo-Ethnic choreography – a distinctive style that seamlessly blends the strength and discipline of classical ballet with the richness, spirit, and identity of Philippine indigenous dance traditions. More than a lecture, the event became an inspiring celebration of Filipino creativity, cultural heritage, and the transformative power of the performing arts.

The program was made possible through the partnership of Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod, the Garcia-Sanchez School of Dance, the Negros Cultural Foundation, the Kinaadman Center for Culture and the Arts, and the National Service Training Program (NSTP), in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)and the National Artist Awards.

As CSAB continues to nurture learners who value both academic excellence and cultural identity, opportunities such as this reaffirm the school’s commitment to fostering an appreciation for the arts, preserving our rich Filipino heritage, and inspiring the next generation of creative leaders.

When culture comes alive through movement, every step becomes a story worth remembering.
