Mr. Plaridel D. Tison Jr., CLASE and SHS faculty, presented two studies aligned with the theme, “Academe as a Global Actor for Peace and Global Citizenship Education: Transformative Pathways for International Understanding through Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship Education,” at the 3rd GCC International Research Conference on Global Citizenship Education (IRCON GCED 2026) held in Palawan State University, Puerto Princesa City.
The first study, co-authored by Dana Beatrice C. Baylon, Marteen Jibril Adrael B. Labrador, and Deo Anne V. Espinosa, found that youth readiness to report wildlife crimes is strengthened by practical reporting knowledge, conservation engagement, and trust in safe reporting systems, underscoring the need for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) to promote reporting literacy, ethical decision-making, and accessible institutional pathways that empower informed and responsible environmental action.
The second study, co-authored by Steph Janzen C. Reyes, found that while student leaders possess a strong foundation of compassionate love for humanity, translating these values into meaningful civic engagement requires structured opportunities that integrate service-learning, advocacy, media literacy, and democratic participation in alignment with GCED and ESD.
Mr. Tison also participated in plenary sessions, panel discussions, and policy brief workshops focused on integrating Global Citizenship Education into curricula, advancing peace education, promoting lifelong learning, and strengthening evidence-based monitoring and accountability for global citizenship initiatives.
The conference brought together scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to examine institutional transformation, decolonization, climate education, peacebuilding, and social justice in education. It also served as a platform for research dissemination, policy dialogue, and academic collaboration, advancing global responsibility across Philippine and ASEAN higher education institutions.
