ABSTRACT:
This multiple regression study determines whether scores from the College General Admissions Test predict academic performance of the First Year Computer Studies students in their English, College Algebra, Computer Fundamentals and Programming Fundamentals subjects. Verbal Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning, Figurative Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning test results in the College Admission Test are used as the predictor variables. Findings show that the predictors are only significant in ENG 101. The contribution of the predictor variables for ENG 101 shows Verbal Comprehension having the strongest unique contribution, followed by Figurative Reasoning. The predictive value of the College General Admission Test in this study shows that grades obtained from different subjects are an imperfect measure of student achievement.
