Representatives from the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) visited CSAB to conduct a laboratory tour and assess the progress of a research team composed of Pharmacy students who received a Php 75,000 grant for their undergraduate research in natural products.
Their study, “Inhibitory Activity against Cholesterol Esterase and Antioxidant Properties of ‘Cinnamomum mercadoi’ Bark Hydroalcoholic Extract,” explores the plant’s potential health benefits and contributes to the growing field of natural products research.
Leading the visit were Ms. Jessica Marie R. Suerte and Ms. Ian Hannah C. Gozun, MPH, who engaged with the researchers to evaluate their progress and discuss future directions. The grant, awarded under the DOST-PCHRD Undergraduate Thesis Grant program, aims to strengthen research in natural products, cultivate a culture of scientific inquiry, and expand the country’s network of experts in the field.
The visit underscores DOST-PCHRD’s commitment to nurturing young scientists and advancing health research in the Philippines. CSAB’s school administrators, led by Fr. President Jose Rene C. Delariarte, OSA, expressed their gratitude for the support, emphasizing the critical role of government-backed initiatives in fostering research and innovation. With this research grant, CSAB, through its Pharmacy Program, continues to establish itself as a regional hub for natural products research.
