What do you get when you bunch together a group of highly creative and qualified educators then head them off for a grueling 3-day boot camp for further advancement and refitting? You have the Midyear In Service Training (INSET) for the faculty members of the College of Arts, Sciences and Education of Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod.
Themed, “Empowering Inclusive Classrooms: Integrating Service Learning, Diverse Pedagogies, and Learning Environment”, the occasion kicked off on the very same day when hotel bookings were full, and flower shops swiftly went empty.
Valentine’s Day of ’24 would be celebrated as also the day when CASE teachers went full throttle demonstrating their LOVE for teaching obtaining vital knowledge to further hone their academic competence and effectiveness.
The event featured six topics spanning across three days presented by speakers who didn’t fail to enlighten and astonish with their brand of knowhow and expertise on their respective areas while holding the teachers enthralled for hours as they took turns discussing some of the most pressing albeit delightful subjects in the academe these days from, among others, managing students with special needs to stemming the tide of seemingly inescapable infiltration of Artificial Intelligence in the schools.
During the first day, former CASE dean Dr. Noeda Madamesila and former CASE Faculty member and presently Vice President for Academic affairs of CSA-B, Dr. Randdie Cuello tackled the topics, Assessment: Aligning of Learning Objectives and Teaching Strategies and Service Learning respectively.
The second day featured the topics Teaching Strategies for Diverse Learners by Dr. Ruel Bonganciso and Fostering Positive Classroom Climate by the Dean of the CAS of USLS, Dr. Rowena Banes.
In the morning of the final day, Dr. Anabelle Magbanua discussed the topic Crafting Learning Activity Sheets.
Peppered with a smorgasbord of fun ice-breakers and games in between breaks, the three-day seminar concluded with a subject on journalism that momentarily stirred up the wordsmith in everyone, seasoned or charlatan. Dr. Hazel Villa was the resource speaker who shared her expertise on the topic.
Dean Jan-Dolly Grace Deita of the College of Arts & Sciences & Education, whose able leadership was instrumental in bringing to fruition the success of the three-day affair, hopes that the INSET will equip the attendees with the necessary tools essential to upgrading their teaching prowess and steering Colegio San Agustin – Bacolod to greater heights.
