Bacolod City, October 31, 2024 — The Basic Education Department of Colegio San Agustin Bacolod under the leadership of the Araling Panlipunan Area, marked United Nations Day with a lively and meaningful culminating activity centered on the theme, “Promoting Sustainable Peace for a Sustainable Future.” The event highlighted the importance of global unity, peace, and environmental sustainability, bringing together pupils and students from kindergarten through Grade 10.
The celebration commenced with a colorful parade of nations, showcasing students in traditional costumes that represented the rich diversity of cultures worldwide. This vibrant display was followed by cultural presentations and dances performed by various grade levels, from Nursery to Grade 10. The Dynamix Club added to the festivities with captivating intermission numbers, all reinforcing the themes of peace and collective responsibility towards protecting the environment for future generations.
Mrs. Rona S. Calvo, the K to 10 Villa San Agustin Campus Academic Coordinator, delivered a heartfelt message that as peace-loving Augustinians, random and collective acts like picking trash at the hallways, mediating between erring classmates, coming to the aid of friends and neighbors in need, abiding by parents’ advice, welcoming new students, obeying rules in school, and be mindful of one’s words, thoughts and actions are workable ways to promote, keep and sustain peace.
This year’s United Nations Day celebration not only showcased the talents and creativity of the students but also underscored the school’s commitment to fostering a sense of global citizenship among its pupils and students.
The celebration concluded with a symbolic renewal of the Pledge of Non-Violence with no less than the UN Ambassadors and Ambassadresses of Peace sealing said renewal with their signature and capped with the singing of Kaleidoscope together as one educative and inclusive Augustinian community.
